GED 2019: Clean Up Drive at Sanjay Gandhi National Park
On the eve of Global Exhibition Day (GED19), being celebrated on 5th June, 2019, about 240 Exhibitions Industry professionals came together on June 2, 2019 and spent their time to ‘Clean up’ the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, located on the Western Suburb of Mumbai. They were inspired by the presence of Gopal Shetty, MP, Bharatiya Janata Party, a humble and accessible leader who flagged of the Movement.
“Just like our industry, we do have a reprehensibility towards our city, hence we wanted to do something for the Mumbai city,” said Mukund Rao, one of the senior Exhibition Industry professionals from Mumbai, adding, “Rather than having some routine celebration or function, we decided to undertake this this Movement. We all united to celebrate Global Exhibitions Day in the most unique way by conducting a Clean Up Drive at Sanjay Gandhi National Park.”
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is an 87 km2 protected area at Borivali in western Suburb. It is noted as one of the major national parks existing within a metropolis limit and is one of the most visited parks. The Park attracts more than 2 million visitors every year. Tourists also enjoy visiting the 2400-year-old Kanheri caves. Owing to its proximity to Mumbai, and its unique location amidst a “National Park”, the caves are a popular tourist destination.
A highly visited sites such as Gandhi National Park and the Kanheri Caves within, surely needs the service of like minded citizens to clean up the mess created by thousands of visitors.
And by inviting people to participate in the drive, the Swachhta Abhiyan has turned into a National Movement. A sense of responsibility has been evoked among the people through the Clean India Movement. The Exhibition Industry professional joined together to eliminate visible trash from the area in and around the caves and all over the Park.
“Our event was very successful and I would like to thank all who were part of it all along soiling their hands, beating the heat and sweating it out for our city – Mumbai. One could not help but feel the the essence of ‘Mumbai’ – Love, Friendliness, Enthusiasm, Energy and Positivity – all around which also summarizes the Trade show Industry in Mumbai,” Rao concludes.
