PM lays the foundation stone of India Intl Convention & Expo Centre in Dwarka
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) in Dwarka, near Delhi-NCR on 20th September 2018. In his address, the Prime Minster said that the facilities provided at the centre will be on par with the best in the world in size and quality, offering setting for international and national events, meetings, conferences, exhibitions and trade shows. IICC will emerge as among the top 10 in the world and the biggest indoor exhibition space in India.
The project is planned over an area of 221.37 acre in Sector 25, Dwarka, at an estimated cost of Rs.25,703 crore. It is expected to generate over 5 lakh employment opportunities IICC will be an integrated complex with facilities like exhibition halls, convention centre, open exhibition spaces, mixed use commercial spaces like star hotels (5, 4 and 3 star), retail services and high-end offices. The construction will be in line with green building principles and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum rating standards. The convention centre can accommodate 11,000 persons, 5 exhibition halls, 1-kilometre long foyer, multi-purpose arena with retractable roof. It will be developed in two phases. Phase-I and II will be completed by December 2019 and December 2024, respectively.
Addressing the gathering PM Modi said the IICC project is part of the government’s resolve, under which infrastructure is being strengthened. The Prime Minister said this center will be like a mini city in Delhi. Convention hall, expo hall, meeting hall, hotel, market, office and many other facilities will be present in the same campus. “Wherever we go anywhere in the world, we will find that small countries also have the capacity to hold big conferences. With these facilities such countries have become hubs of modern tourism but our country has not thought in this direction. Everything was limited to Pragati Maidan. Developing the business environment in other states of the country, by building the IICC. This convention center will be ready-to use.”
He further said: “This will not only be the Convention and Expo Center but also the industrial platform for national and international business. This project will emerge as centre of attitude and energy of 80 crore youth. It is not just a convention and expo centre but a vibrant centre for domestic and international business.”
