Amid untamed Covid-19 crisis Tourism & Hospitality sectors start layoffs
01 June 2020: Travel, tourism and hospitality across the globe are amongst the sectors witnessing the worst economic impact due to COVID-19 pandemic. As such Indian travel, tourism and hospitality sector has begun to lay off jobs, according to a media report. The Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) has estimated about 30-50 million job losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes almost the entire value chain of the sector.
As per the Home Ministry, air travel, both international and domestic, remain suspended till the end of Lockdown 4.0. However, the Civil Aviation Ministry announced that domestic civil aviation operations shall be restored partially from May 25.
Hotels and other major hospitality services continue to remain shut in Lockdown 4.0 as per the Ministry of Home Affairs’ order. All such services remain shut except for those meant for quarantine facilities/housing/health/police/government officials/healthcare workers/stranded persons or tourists.
