DMEA 2020 to be held as a free virtual event
28 May 2020: This year’s edition of DMEA, originally scheduled for 16 to 18 June 2020, will be held as a free virtual event. On 16 June 2020 selected keynote speeches and other formats will be streamed live. Topics will include artificial intelligence, innovations in health IT and digitalisation of nursing care processes.
Both these and other program items will be available online on demand, as per an official communiqué from Messe Berlin and the German Association of Health IT Vendors (bvitg). Events scheduled include the eHealth Hot Seat, an interactive format, with CEO Dr. Markus Leyck Dieken. This event as well as many other lectures, talks and panels featuring high-level experts can be viewed live online or on the following days. From 16 to 18 June many exhibitors at DMEA will also be hosting lectures, webinars and product presentations displaying their solutions.
This follows a decision by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the minister presidents of the German States to impose a ban on staging large events until at least 31 August 2020. “We have been continually monitoring developments regarding the coronavirus pandemic over recent weeks“, said Jens Heithecker of Messe Berlin. “Consequently, the decision now taken to ban large events was not altogether unexpected and we have prepared ourselves accordingly.”
In the words of Sebastian Zilch, managing director of bvitg: “Digitalisation in the healthcare system is currently as topical as ever. We are seeing how important access to medical data is and that digital solutions such as video consultations can improve patient care, particularly in times of crisis. Combining efforts to create innovative solutions is the key to success – that is DMEA’s basic approach too. In order to keep the DMEA community up-to-date and ensure an information exchange we have agreed on a virtual event this year. By offering the program free of charge we hope to enable a high level of participation, both live or at a later date.”
DMEA is Europe’s leading event for health IT which gathers decision-makers from every area of the healthcare sector – including IT specialists, physicians, hospital and nursing care executives as well as experts from politics, science and research
